"We're in This Together" Means Helping Our Most Vulnerable
Los Angeles was one of the first cities in the U.S. to issue a stay at home order. As a fashion company that produces of its most of its clothing here, I am thankful that California communities are working together to stop the spread of COVID-19.
Our Michael Stars team connected – virtually of course – to see how we could help those communities hardest hit by the pandemic. We came up with a campaign called “One for All.”
One for All will help raise funds for organizations who help America's most vulnerable communities. This first effort raises emergency funds for workers in the restaurant industry through an incredible organization called the One Fair Wage (OFW) Emergency Fund.
The Michael Stars Foundation is contributing a total of $10,000 to OFW by donating 20% of sales from our one size tees.
One Fair Wage is helping tipped workers who, even before the pandemic, were struggling financially – earning the federal sub-minimum wage of $2.13. According to OFW, seven states, so far, have moved to a one fair wage policy, with tips on top of that. However, elsewhere in the U.S., tipped workers still mainly rely on tips for their income. As restaurants continue to close across the country, tipped workers are facing even more hardship, urgently looking for ways to feed their families and pay their bills. Take a second and visit their site to learn more about how they’re helping workers all over the country. Any amount you contribute will help.
Many of our customers are reaching out to tell me how much they support our efforts. It makes me so happy to hear that. Over the years, our customers and our company have built an amazing community of fashion- and civic-minded people who share our values and our vision for equality.
We are so grateful for that support, especially now, when we all need each other more than ever!
